It can reach seven meters in length and weigh almost a ton. The saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) is the largest reptile on the planet. Depending on the season, the animal lives in freshwater rivers or in the sea. The fearsome saltwater crocodile is a nocturnal hunter, it feeds on mammals that it catches on the ground (monkeys, wild boars, etc.), monitor lizards and many other reptiles. The largest populations of saltwater crocodiles are found in Australia, India and Southeast Asia. Protected since 1971, the species is no longer considered threatened.
