The snake's island
3
0
It is located 35 kilometers off São Paulo (Brazil). The Brazilian island of Queimeda Grande is home to the highest density of snakes in the world. No human being lives there. According to the last census that took place in 2008, 2,000 snakes inhabit the island. The snakes are jararaca-ilhoa, a species that averages 1 meter in length. 11,000 years ago, when sea levels rose, Queimeda Grande and its snakes were cut off from the Brazilian coast. The snakes have had to adapt to the living conditions on the island and today manage to climb to the tops of the trees to feed on migratory birds.
