The Sahara Desert (Africa) is the largest hot desert on the planet. Antarctica and the Arctic are the two largest cold deserts in the world. With a total area of 8 million square kilometers, the Sahara Desert covers 10 countries and is larger than Australia that measures 7.6 million km².
