The return of the African wild dog to Malawi
There were no more individuals left in Malawi (South East Africa). Last August, fourteen African wild dogs were transferred from South Africa and Mozambique to join two protected reserves in Malawi. The African lycaon, nicknamed African wild dog is a carnivorous mammal that lives only in the steppes and African savannas. Threatened by hunting and habitat degradation, the species is classified as endangered. Photo credit: Leon Pauleikhoff
