The rebirth of Gorongosa
1
0
During Mozambique's civil war from the 1970s to the 1990s, Gorongosa National Park, located in the center of the country, was decimated. 90% of the mammals had disappeared: only 30 lions, 30 elephants and 2 zebras populated the park at the end of the conflict. In the 2000s, the government of Mozambique joined forces with the American philanthropist Greg Carr to repopulate the reserve, to protect the biodiversity, but also the human populations who live there. Today, Gorongosa National Park is a symbol of ecotourism. The fauna is reborn, 146 lions and more than 650 elephants live peacefully in the national reserve.
