The natural pools of Pamukkale

Located in Turkey (Asia), the natural site of Pamukkale is nicknamed the cotton castle. Millions of years ago, 17 hot springs formed these natural pools that are spread over several floors of white stone. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, the Pamukkale site is particularly famous for its cultural heritage. The emperor Marc Antoine nicknamed Pamukkale, the “swimming pool of Cleopatra” in honor of the latter who would have bathed there. Photo credit: Arns Civray
