Yawning can be contagious. Heavy sleepers, lions yawn very often. For several months, researchers observed around 20 lions in the Makalali reserve in South Africa. In addition to the imitation phenomenon, the researchers observed that yawning had a social role in a pride of lions. Very often, the lion that imitates the yawn of another lion will also replicate its movements afterwards. Motor synchronization created by the initial yawn. Photo credit: Ben Thouard / The Explorers
