It lasted more than twenty hours. The volcanic eruption of Mount Tambora in 1815 is the biggest explosion the world has known. Mount Tambora is located on the island of Sumbawa, Indonesia (Southeast Asia). The explosions have been heard more than 2,000 kilometers away. This eruption is ranked level 7 on a scale of 8 degrees of volcanic intensity.
