The incredible comeback of mountain gorillas

Thanks to extensive monitoring and conservation efforts, the status of the mountain gorilla has changed from critically endangered to endangered. Subspecies of the eastern gorilla, the mountain gorilla is the only great ape that sees its population grow. In the forests of the Virunga Massif - between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda and Uganda - the population of these great apes has grown from 680 in 2008 to just over 1000 in 2018!
