The extremely rare sapphire ornamental tarantula
2
0
The sapphire ornamental tarantula (Poecilotheria metallica) is the only tarantula in the world to be electric blue in color. Its color comes from its hair. But beware, these aren't blue: they're made up of infinitely small patterns that catch and scatter visible light, giving the spider that unique color. Measuring between 15 to 20 centimeters in diameter, the ornamental sapphire tarantula lives in the tropical forests of southern India and West Bengal (Southeast Asia). Unfortunately, her beauty arouses covetousness. Prized by collectors, it is one of the 100 most endangered species in the world.
