The dandelion is back
The dandelion, long scorned by gardeners, is regaining its reputation. It could soon become an ecological alternative to latex. Tire manufacturers are banking on a Russian variety, Taraxacum kok-saghyz, which contains up to 20% of its weight in latex. The idea is not new. In the 1930s, the Russians cultivated dandelion on a large scale in an attempt to make rubberized gum.
