The bird that laughed
1
0
Its call has often been used in films - Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Tarzan - as a background sound for jungle scenes. It is not a monkey or the frog, but the giant kingfisher, also known as the Kookaburra. Endemic to Australia, the Kookaburra is known for its laughter-like calls and raucous cackles. These vocalizations contain "go-go", 'koo-koo-koo-koo-koo-kaa-kaa-kaa' and "gurgle". The cackle of the Laughing Kookaburra is actually a territorial call to warn other birds to stay away.
