On land, pollination by insects such as bees concerns 90% of flowering plant species. But what about the marine environment? For a long time, it was thought that marine plants were pollinated by water currents. Scientists at the Roscoff Biological Station (France) have now confirmed the involvement of a small crustacean, the Isopode "Idotea balthica", in the reproduction of red algae. This is the first time that this type of interaction between a seaweed and an animal has been demonstrated.
