Whales produce the loudest sounds in the animal kingdom. And this, even when they are 1,000 meters deep. Scientists from the American Association for the Advancement of Science have unearthed a recent discovery to explain the power of these vibrations. The whales are endowed with “phonic lips”. At the bottom of the ocean, the air is almost absent. To breathe, whales use a small pocket of air in their nose. When they breathe, they activate this pocket whose air movement is equivalent to the power of a shotgun blast and produces a very loud sound.
