The radiated tortoise (Astrochelys radiata) is one of the most beautiful turtles in the world. Adorned with elegant star-shaped pattern of yellow lines on a black shell, it can live to be at least 100 years old. However, this turtle is a rare and threatened species. In the face of deforestation and illegal trafficking, local populations are uniting to protect it. The turtle village of Mangily-Ifaty, in the south-west of Madagascar, collects and looks after the turtles before releasing them into protected reserves.
