Robert Ballard is an American maritime scientist and great oceanographer. In 1977, he began his research to find the wreckage of the Titanic. It was in 1985 that he met the main top during a military operation led by the US Navy. The wreckage still lies today at 3,843 meters deep, 650 km southeast of Newfoundland (North Atlantic).
