It had not been seen since the end of the 19th century. The black-naped pheasant was spotted in September 2022 by a team of scientists from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the American Bird Conservancy. Endemic to Fergusson Island, Papua New Guinea, the black-naped pheasant pigeon is a bird with blue and orange plumage. After this incredible discovery, the local community decided to invest in the protection of the species.
