0
The Inca citadel of Macchu Picchu (Peru) was built in the 15th century by Emperor Pachacuti. Several centuries later, in 1867, Augusto Berns, gold digger and lumber operator, settled in the region. He buys land not far from the Inca site and discovers the ruins of the citadel. The Peruvian archives specify that this discovery was accompanied by a plunder of the Inca treasures, carried out with the agreement of the Peruvian authorities at the time. Photo credit: Karson
