What is the Mesopelagic zone?

0
The Mesopelagic zone is the oceanic zone that is between 200 and 1,000 meters deep. It is an area that is very low in luminosity. At this depth, photosynthesis no longer works. Animals that live in the Mesopelagic zone have two options for food: either eat the particles that fall from the epipelagic zone (the one on top) or, for an active predator, feed on the prey of the Mesopelagic zone and have the possibility to ascend to the epipelagic zone to feed. Beyond 1,000 meters is the beginning of the bathypelagic zone, also called the "midnight zone".
