What is ocean acidification?
0
0
The oceans play a key role in regulating the climate. They capture 25% of atmospheric CO2 emissions. Once absorbed, CO2 acts as a weak acid and tends to lower the pH of the water. In recent years, CO2 emissions have increased, the oceans have acidified: this is called ocean acidification. This phenomenon represents a threat to the habitats of marine species as well as to the development of animals. According to a recent study by researchers at the University of Exeter (UK), bass have lost part of their sense of smell due to acidification.
