Each tree has its own leaves. Their shape depends on the environment in which they evolve. Each leaf must simultaneously capture a maximum of light, photosynthesis, and absorb a maximum of CO2. For instance, in a shady environment, tree leaves tend to be broad to maximize their chances of receiving light. Photo credit: Bryn Parish
