Prehistoric fish

Coelacanths, which have been around for 400 million years, were thought extinct until they were found alive in 1938 off South Africa. Measuring up to 2 meters long and 100 kg, this prehistoric fish bears witness to the evolution of fish into the first terrestrial vertebrates, with its remnants of lungs and fleshy fins, the precursors of legs. A living fossil that offers a fascinating insight into the evolution of life, from the depths of the sea to land.
