They capture their prey with perfect control of their beak. Twilight and nocturnal animals, platypus swim with their eyes closed. Their sight is much weaker than their sense of touch. To swim and to hunt, platypus do not use their eyes but only their beak. Thanks to the latter, equipped with 40,000 extremely sensitive receptors and nerve endings, platypus are able to detect movements and the electric field around them.
