fter climate change, sedimentation is the second most serious threat to corals. Sedimentation is the accumulation of mineral, plant, and animal deposits in the bottom of seas or lakes. These sediments interfere with the development of corals. According to a study published by scientists at the Australian University of Queensland, one of the solutions to fight this would be to plant trees. Reforestation keeps sediments on land and prevents them from reaching the oceans. Photo credit: Ben Thouard / The Explorers
