Opal capital of the world
1
0
In the heart of the Australian desert, the village of Coober Pedy is known as the opal production capital of the world. Indeed, 95% of the stones used in the world of jewelry come from its extraction sites. Here, 80% of the inhabitants live underground, in troglodyte houses to protect themselves from the sun and the heat, which can sometimes reach 50 degrees. A lunar movie setting, so much so that the site has been chosen for the filming of well-known movies such as "Mad Max", "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" and "Red Planet".
