In 2019, American molecular biologist Tracie Seimon, accompanied by her team, traveled to the southern flank of Everest. As a reminder, Everest is the highest peak in the world and culminates at 8,848 meters. The purpose of this expedition was to find out about the state of biodiversity in this part of the world. The team crossed paths with many species such as butterflies, tardigrades and mayflies. In total, they discovered 16% of the taxonomic ranks that exist on Earth. A taxonomic rank is a scientific classification of the living world. A surprising and encouraged discovery for scientific research!
