At first glance, the yellow and black stripes of this specimen resemble those of a bee or hornet. In reality, it's a moth, the Apiform Sesis. Their imitation is not limited to their physical appearance: the Apiform Sesis buzzes like a bee. This so-called "Batesian" mimicry, in reference to a 19th-century English naturalist, confers on the butterfly the advantages of its replica, in this case, the fear of venom by predators... And makes it difficult for entomologists to detect!
