Artificial intelligence at the service of coral reefs

Coral reefs are home to 25% of marine life. Unfortunately, they have been threatened for years. The CORaiL project created by Intel, Accenture and the Sulubaii Environmental Foundation is intended to help stop the destruction of reefs and later contribute to its reconstruction. Since May 2019, they have been filming reefs continuously around the island of Pangatalan in the Philippines (Asia). Thanks to artificial intelligence, it is easier to monitor, characterize and analyze the resistance of coral reefs. The project is also used to study the rate of migration of tropical fish to colder regions, or to verify what life looks like in protected or restricted underwater areas. Photo credit: Hitoshi Namura
