According to a study published in the journal Plos One, plants communicate with each other by their roots. They send signals, emit volatile compounds to prevent other plants from imminent danger or weather changes. For example, when the leaves of a poplar are torn off, this latter produces more tannin and releases ethylene to prevent other trees from the danger. Photo credit: Ben Thouard / The Explorers
