It has been considered a species in its own right since 2018. Vogelkop's Superb Bird-of-paradise is a species of bird in the bird-of-paradise family. It is endemic to the west of West Papua, a province of Indonesia (Southeast Asia). Recognizable by its electric blue feathers on its chest, Vogelkop's Superb Bird-of-paradise sports an intense black mantle that includes some of the blackest pigment on Earth.
