The "Nature's chefs"
1
0
It is a new concept published on the site of North Carolina University (United States). An interdisciplinary group of researchers proposes a new animal classification: the "Nature's chefs”. The latter are those who produce or prepare food - or an illusion of food - for other living organisms. For example, some plants produce fruit to attract animals, inviting them to disperse the seeds. The goal can also be to deceive its prey. For instance: the tongue of the snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina) has an appendage that looks a lot like an aquatic worm. The fake worm attracts the turtle's prey and ends up directly in the animal's mouth.
