Cenotes, Mexico's underground treasures
Their name means sacred wells in the Mayan language. Cenotes were the only sources of water for the Mayans. In Yucatan (eastern Mexico), in the middle of the forest, these underwater caves are real natural treasures. Thousands of them exist in Yucatan. Invaluable playgrounds for scientists around the world. Photo credit: Fabian Kronenberger
