The tapir is a large herbivore that feeds on 300 different plant species. Nicknamed the forest gardener, he lives in particular in the Amazon rainforest where he plays a key role in maintaining the ecosystem. According to Brazilian researcher Lucas Paolucci, the tapir's droppings, made up of many seeds that it swallows, could help reforest plots of Amazon rainforest affected by fires.
