The sardine bans extend over 15 kilometers long, 4 kilometers wide, and about 40 meters deep. The Sardine Run is the name given to the sardine migration which takes place every year from June to July along the coast of South Africa. This gathering of millions of fish gives rise to a fascinating show. It is also a popular annual hunting ground for sharks, carnivorous fish, mammals, and seabirds.
