A species in danger of extinction, the Tequila splitfin (Zoogoneticus tequila) is making a comeback. Endemic to the waters of the Teuchitlan River in Mexico (North America), this fish has been the subject of a vast reintroduction program. In 1998, the species was considered extinct due to pollution and habitat degradation. Today, thanks to awareness-raising operations and cleaning of the waters of the river, their number is estimated between 1,500 and 2,000 individuals.
