The Sahara progresses by 2 kilometers a year. To counter this movement and protect their territories, several African countries have joined forces to create the Great Green Wall. This project was born in 2008. The countries pledged to plant millions of trees over a distance of 8000km, the width of the continent, to make the desert retreat.
