The narrow-bodied handfish or Pezichthys compressus belongs to the group of "hand" fishes (family Brachionichthyidae), named for the finger-like shape of their pectoral fins. These fish have finger-like pectoral fins and prefer to walk rather than swim in the ocean. Using an underwater camera, Australian scientists identified this species on September 15th 2023 near Flinders Island in Tasmania, Australia. The animal was last observed in 1996.
