The Belize Great Blue Hole

It is a unique place in the world. Belize's Great Blue Hole (South America) is an underwater cenote. A cenote is the name given to a sinkhole that is created in underground networks. The word cenote means sacred well in the Mayan language. Belize's Great Blue Hole was originally a limestone cave. Over the centuries and with the rising waters, this cave has filled with water. Today Belize's Great Hole is 125 meters deep and 318 meters in diameter. It is located about 100 kilometers off the coast of Belize.
