For 25 years, Tomas Diagne has been working to protect turtles in Senegal. In 1992, he built the Village des Tortues in Noflaye (western Senegal). Initially, it essentially protected the Centrochelys sulcata, the third largest turtle in the world behind those of the Seychelles and the Galapagos. Today, he travels all over Africa to protect the continent's 48 species of turtles.
