The Aral Sea is being reborn

0
It is actually a large saltwater lake. Located between Kazahkstan and Uzbekistan (Central Asia), the Aral Sea was one of the largest lakes in the world. In the 1960s, the diversion of the two rivers that fed it gradually changed the sea into a desert. The Aral Sea has lost 70% of its area. Since the 2000s, thanks to the construction of a retaining dam and a vast rescue operation, the waters have gradually returned.
