The queen of imitation
1
0
It can imitate many marine animals. The mimic octopus (Thaumoctopus mimicus) lives in the tropical seas of Asia. It measures on average 60 centimeters. Coin mimicry is known, but the mimic coin is the only one capable of adopting the appearance and behavior of other species. This octopus can take on the shape, color, texture, posture and behavior of 15 other marine species including the giant crab, the sole or the mantis shrimp. Its imitations are strategic choices: when it hunts, it transforms into a harmless animal and, when threatened, it imitates a predator.
