The leafcutter ant, a pioneer in compost

Their jaws vibrate 1,000 times per second! Leafcutter ants can strip a tree of its leaves in a day. Once cut, these leaves are chewed by worker ants and serve as compost for the design of a mushroom. It is this fungus that leafcutter ants feed on.
