The turtles nest

Off the coast of Queensland (southern Australia), Raine Island is the largest green sea turtle nesting site in the world. Each year, from September to December, more than 60,000 green turtles come to lay their eggs on the beaches of the Australian island. Turtles play an essential role within the reef, feeding on algae that parasitize the coral and threaten to asphyxiate it.
