0
The Vavilov Institute, created in 1894 and based in St. Petersburg (Russia) is the oldest seed bank in the world. Today, the institute conserves and reproduces some 350,000 varieties of seeds. It was named in honor of Nikolai Ivanovich Vavilov, a Russian agronomist, and botanist who led 115 plant-collecting expeditions around the world for the institute. Its goal: to preserve humanity from famine through biodiversity.
