It owes its name to the pigs that were introduced by the seal's hunters in the XIXth century. Pig island is a French island located in the Indian Ocean, between South Africa and Antarctica. In the 1980s, it sheltered the world's largest population of king penguins. Two million of king penguins lived on the island.
