Pig Island is home to... penguins!

It owes its name to the pigs that were introduced by the seal's hunters in the XIXth century. Pig island is a French island located in the Indian Ocean, between South Africa and Antarctica. In the 1980s, it sheltered the world's largest population of king penguins. Two million of king penguins lived on the island. Unfortunately, in 2016, satellite images showed the population dropped by 80%. Despite a study conducted on site by the CNRS, the reasons for this decline remain mysterious. In an equally mysterious way, in February 2020, the penguin population increased again...
