The art of camouflage
3
0
The insect Deroplatys trigonodera is an ace of camouflage. This species of praying mantis lives in Southeast Asia. Thanks to its brown color and its triangular thorax, the insect is confused with a dead leaf. Its camouflage allows it to quietly wait for its prey to come up to it. Devourer of insects, the praying mantis catches its prey with its legs, immobilizes it, then eats it thanks to its chewing mouth apparatus. The species Deroplatys trigonodera feeds mainly on mosquitoes and crickets.
