The seabed holds many secrets! Beneath the thick Antarctic ice, almost 900 meters deep, lives the Antarctic sponge (Anoxycalyx joubini). This species attaches itself to rocks and survives despite the total absence of light. It can reach two meters in height. The discovery of this sponge took place in 2021, during an expedition led by the British Antarctic Survey. According to the first analyses, the Antarctic sponge could live up to... 10,000 years!
