A great success for this breeding campaign. Fifty years ago, Diego and other giant tortoises were introduced to Santa Cruz Island (Galapagos Islands, Ecuador) with the aim of increasing the population of the species. At the time, only 15 turtles lived on the island. Today, there are nearly 2,000 of them. Diego, a male tortoise, has given birth to 800 babies. Diego is over 100 years old.
