How does a caterpillar turn into a butterfly?

0
The caterpillar feeds exclusively on plants. After 4 or 5 moults, it clings to a leaf or a branch and begins to produce silk. During its last moult, the caterpillar loses its skin, an epidermis appears and covers it: the chrysalis. The caterpillar operates its transformation inside the chrysalis. On average, after two weeks, the transformation is complete: the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis. Photo credit: Bankim Desai
