It had died out in Great Britain in 1979. The Large blue is a butterfly that disappeared from the English plains due to the lack of maintenance of the meadows which served as its habitat. Four decades later and thanks to the reintroduction of caterpillars from Sweden, the Large blue has made a successful comeback. Britain is home to the world's largest population of the species to date with more than 10,000 individuals on its territory.
